Scott Hamilton's Family Journey: Love, Adoption, And Health Battles

Figure skater Scott Hamilton knows a thing or two about resilience. Through his health battles and his loving family, he’s found strength and joy. As an Olympian and dad to four kids—Jean Paul, Aidan, Evelyne, and Maxx—Scott shares his life with his wife, Tracie Hamilton (formerly Robinson). Their family story is one of love, determination, and incredible blessings.

Scott Hamilton’s Family: A Journey of Love and Growth

Scott and Tracie tied the knot in 2002 after a year of engagement. Their marriage came after Scott's battle with testicular cancer, which he faced head-on with chemotherapy and surgery in 1997. Despite the challenges, Scott and Tracie embarked on their journey as parents, welcoming biological sons Aidan and Maxx into their lives after their wedding. These boys brought immense joy and new meaning to their lives.

But their family story didn’t stop there. In 2010, Scott and Tracie were deeply moved by the devastation caused by the earthquake in Haiti. As they prepared to offer aid, they stumbled upon photos of a little boy named Jean Paul living in an orphanage. They soon discovered that he had a younger sister, Evelyne. This revelation changed everything for them.

“We fell in love with these kids two years ago, and it took us that long to bring them home,” Scott shared with Today in November 2014. Adopting Jean Paul and Evelyne was more than just expanding their family—it was about creating a bond that transcended borders and circumstances.

Tracie opened up about the experience, saying, “It’s been really fun having a girl, and she’s so joyful. It has been beautiful, it has been challenging, it has been amazing, it has been hard. It has been such a blessing and it’s been everything we expected it would be.” Their family truly reflects a blend of love, diversity, and resilience.

Scott also shared insights into his kids’ unique personalities and interests. “Jean Paul is a crazy, phenomenal soccer player, and Aidan has gotten the bug from him, so now he’s on the school team,” Scott told People in November 2015. “Maxx is into skating, but he wants to play tackle football. We’re kind of like, ‘Well, you’re 7. You can wait.’” Each child brings something special to their dynamic family.

Scott Hamilton Battles Brain Tumors with Grace

For over two decades, Scott has faced the challenge of battling brain tumors. Diagnosed in 2004, 2010, and again in August 2016, he underwent surgery twice in the past. However, during the third diagnosis, Scott decided to take a different approach. “When they gave me the diagnosis, they said, it’s back,” Scott revealed to People in February 2024. “They brought in this really talented young surgeon who said, ‘We could do the surgery again. It’d be complicated, but we’ve got really talented people here that we could bring in and I know we could pull it off if that’s an option for you.’”

Scott, who founded Scott Hamilton CARES, isn’t opposed to seeking treatment in the future. “The ace I have up my sleeve is that now there’s a targeted radiation therapy that will shrink the tumor,” he explained. “And in that, I can avoid a lot of other things like surgery and chemo. So I don’t know, I’m mostly trying to be in the moment and taking all the information and doing the right thing when the time comes.”
