Prince Harry Opens Up About King Charles III's Cancer Battle

In a candid moment, Prince Harry has broken his silence regarding his father, King Charles III’s ongoing battle with cancer. The heartfelt comments came shortly after he was photographed visiting the monarch in the U.K., showing just how important family ties remain, even amidst personal differences.

Harry Speaks Out After Visiting Charles

Speaking to Good Morning America during a segment that aired on Friday, February 16, Prince Harry, 39, revealed the lengths he went to in order to be there for his father. “I spoke to him. I jumped on a plane and went to go see him as soon as I could,” Harry shared. “Look, I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I’m grateful for that.”

Details About Charles' Condition

The author of the controversial memoir Spare, Harry chose to keep specifics about Charles’ condition private. “That stays between me and him,” he stated firmly. Buckingham Palace made the announcement on February 5 that Charles, 75, had been diagnosed with cancer, though the exact type remains undisclosed. It's comforting to know that the prognosis looks positive since the cancer was caught early.

Reunification Amidst Challenges

Broadcasting live from Canada, where Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, traveled to celebrate the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025, Harry expressed optimism about the potential for family healing. “Absolutely. Yeah, I’m sure,” he reflected. “Throughout all these families, I see it on a day-to-day basis, the strength of the family unit coming together.”

His visit with Charles on February 6 lasted approximately 45 minutes, after which the king was seen leaving Clarence House with Queen Camilla. Despite the gravity of the situation, His Majesty appeared to be in good spirits following their time together.

“Charles was taken aback by the cancer diagnosis. It was a total shock,” a royal insider revealed to Closer. “Thankfully, the prognosis is good because it was caught early.”

Possible Future Visits

As the youngest son of Charles and the late Princess Diana, Harry didn’t rule out the possibility of visiting his father again soon. “I have my own family, as we all do. My family and my life in California is as it is,” he noted. “I’ve got other trips planned that would take me through the U.K. or back to the U.K., so I’ll stop in and see my family as much as I can.”

Life in California

Harry and Meghan, 42, currently reside in a stunning Montecito, California, home with their two children, Archie and Lilibet. The devoted dad admitted that he’s entertained the idea of becoming a U.S. citizen since stepping away from royal duties in January 2020. “I’m here standing next to this with these guys and the American citizenship is a thought that has crossed my mind but certainly not something that is a high priority for me right now,” Harry said.
