Hoda beautifully described her feelings about the move to People, saying, "It’s like my roots need a bigger pot. You know when you take a plant out of a pot, and it’s roots are all twisted and tight? And then you put it in a bigger pot with fresh new soil and it just grows bigger and stronger? That’s the journey I’m on right now." She acknowledges that leaving the comfort of their familiar surroundings will be challenging, but she believes it's essential for her family's growth and well-being.

For Hoda, motherhood has been an incredible journey filled with love and learning. After battling breast cancer, she faced the heartbreak of realizing that freezing her eggs wasn't an option due to her age and treatment. "She basically said that given my age and [my breast cancer treatment], it was pretty close to a dead-end," Hoda recalled during a March 2022 interview with Good Housekeeping. This news left her devastated, as she sat alone in her room, sobbing uncontrollably. "I thought, ‘Well, that’s that, isn’t it?’ Like, you almost blame yourself. ‘Why didn’t I do this? Why didn’t I do that?’ So I just pushed it away because the reality seemed impossible to bear," she confessed.

Hoda's journey was far from over, though. She continued, "How do you survive knowing you can’t have what you desire and what you feel like you actually physically need?" Her resilience and determination eventually led her to the beautiful family she has today.

In 2017, Hoda's dream of becoming a mother finally came true when she adopted Haley. Just two years later, she and Joel, now 66, welcomed Hope into their family. Despite their separation, Hoda and Joel have maintained a friendly co-parenting relationship for the sake of their daughters.

A New Chapter at 60

As Hoda embarks on her 60th year, she's embracing every new opportunity life has to offer, from moving to the suburbs to exploring dating, traveling, and more. During her 60th birthday bash on Today, she reflected on her journey, saying, "I remember, vividly, turning 50 and saying to myself: ‘This life that you have is great and don’t ask for more because you’re deserving of only what you have and nothing beyond.’ And I remember wondering if I was worthy of being a mother." Hoda admitted that she often questioned her worth, but one day, she decided to voice her deepest desire aloud: "I wish that I could be a mom."

She continued, "I said it at 50, and I thought I was speaking it out into the air, but what I was doing was speaking it out into the universe. And then all of a sudden, things started happening." With Haley and Hope cheering her on from the audience, Hoda gushed, "And lo and behold in my 50s, I’ve got Haley Joy Kotb, who’s over there, and then I got Hope Catherine Kotb who’s right there. And I realized that sometimes we think that our blessings have passed us by, but no. They’re coming."
