Hoda Kotb's First Halloween In The Suburbs: A New Adventure For The Whole Family

Hoda Kotb Embraces Suburban Life With Exciting Halloween Plans

There’s nothing quite like starting fresh, and Hoda Kotb is embracing her new suburban life with open arms this Halloween. Alongside her daughters, Haley and Hope, the Kotb family is diving headfirst into the spooky festivities, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Recently relocated from the bustling streets of New York City, Hoda has been sharing her excitement about the upcoming holiday on her popular show, Today With Hoda & Jenna.

Suburban Halloween: A Whole New World

When you think about Halloween in the city, it’s often about visiting local shops or businesses for candy. But as Hoda, 60, explained during an episode of Today With Hoda & Jenna on Friday, October 18, her family’s experience has been quite different. “Halloween is so fun in the suburbs,” she told Jenna Bush Hager. “In the city, we used to go trick-or-treating at CVS, the dry cleaner, and even a nail salon. My kids thought trick-or-treating meant walking into a store and having the lady behind the counter toss some candy into their bags.”

Decorating and Parading: The Suburban Twist

Now that she’s traded city life for a quieter suburban setting, Hoda has noticed some big differences in how the holiday is celebrated. “Everywhere I look in our town, there are those big spiderwebs, pumpkins, and all the festive decorations,” she said during the broadcast. “It’s like stepping into a Halloween wonderland. They even have parades here! And guess what? They told me my kids need three Halloween costumes because the first one will probably get ruined.”

For Haley, 7, and Hope, 5, this year’s Halloween is shaping up to be a blast. The town parade, a special school parade, and plenty of trick-or-treating are just the beginning. “Some people block off their streets for block parties, then go trick-or-treating, and come back for more fun,” Hoda explained. “It’s not just one night; it’s a days-long celebration. I’m so excited for my girls to experience all of it.”

Carving Pumpkins and Hosting Friends

Jenna, 42, couldn’t help but notice how much Hoda has embraced her new suburban lifestyle. “I feel like I don’t even know you,” Jenna joked, referring to Hoda’s newfound love for hosting. Hoda laughed and replied, “I can’t believe what I’m doing right now. We’re inviting people over, ordering pizza and salads, and creating these little family traditions. It’s wild!”

Hoda also mentioned that pumpkin carving is on the agenda for the coming days. “We’re going to get our hands dirty and make it a family affair,” she said. “It’s all about making memories, and I couldn’t be happier about it.”

It’s clear that Hoda has been thriving since the move. In September, she spoke about her daughters’ first day at their new school. “We went for our first day of school,” Hoda said during a September 4 episode of Today. “I carried my coffee, wore my sneakers, and walked my kids to school. It was incredible!”

She also reflected on the joy of seeing so many other children walking to school that morning, which reminded her of her own childhood. “We had seven amazing years in the city, but I believe kids need to connect with nature, run around in the grass, and get their hands dirty,” Hoda explained. “It’s all about giving them a well-rounded experience.”

In a recent episode of her “Making Space” podcast, Hoda described her move as a “repotting phase.” “I feel like my roots need a bigger pot, in every sense of the word,” she said. “This move with my kids is a big deal for us, but it’s the right decision.”

And that’s not all—Hoda revealed earlier this year that she will be leaving Today in early 2025 to spend more quality time with her children. “It’s time to focus on what matters most,” she said. “I’m excited about this next chapter.”
