Just three short months after opening up about her battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, the legendary actress Jane Fonda made a triumphant return to Washington, D.C., on December 2. She joined a passionate climate change rally, marking her in-person comeback to Fire Drill Fridays, the movement she started back in 2019 to sound the alarm on the climate emergency.

Fire Drill Fridays: A Movement Born from Passion

Fonda, now 84, launched Fire Drill Fridays with the goal of bringing awareness to the urgent need for climate action. Her dedication to the cause has been nothing short of inspiring. In 2019, she famously found herself arrested for participating in one of these rallies, spending a night in jail at the age of 81. Charged with unlawfully demonstrating at the United States Capitol, Fonda was later released on an “own recognizance release,” or O.R. release, which ensured her appearance in court. Known for her role in Grace & Frankie, she continued to be arrested for four consecutive weeks, facing a judge in November 2019. Fortunately, the charges against her were eventually dropped.

A Star-Studded Rally

Her appearance at the rally on December 2 marked the first in-person gathering for the Fire Drill Fridays movement in three years, drawing a massive crowd in support of her efforts. Joining Fonda on stage were notable figures like actress Taylor Schilling from Orange Is the New Black and Senator Jeff Merkley.
